President declares Vaanee an uninhabited island

President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has declared Dhaalu Vaanee an uninhabited island.

The President’s Office said that President Yameen declared Vaanee an uninhabited island, under the Decentralisation Act and Article 8 of the Constitution, because people no longer live on the island.

Five candidates contested in the Local Council Election for Vaanee, and Elections Commission has announced that since the number of candidates did not exceed the number stated in the law, all five candidates have been elected to Vaanee Council.
