Criminal Court halts all proceedings

Criminal Court has stopped accepting new cases and ceased all exiting proceedings after stating that the court will not accept cases from the State in the absence of a Prosecutor General.

Criminal Court’s Media Official Ahmed Mohamed Manik said: “The Prosecutor General post has been vacant for 30 days and there is still no appointment. That is the reason for this decision."

He said the court will not resume proceedings unless ordered by the Supreme Court, or a new Prosecutor General is appointed soon. However, Criminal Court said it will hear detention cases without disruption.
