Nilandhoo reclamation begins under Gasim

Reclamation of land began in Faafu Nilandhoo this week under a grant provided by Villa Foundation Chairman and Jumhoory Party leader Gasim Ibrahim.

Nilandhooo council president Abdul Jaleel Ahmed told Sun today that the project will see an additional 4.3 hectares reclaimed from the 0.9 hectare reclamation project that is currently underway. The additional portion is funded by the famous resort tycoon.

“The people asked Gasim Ibrahim to reclaim an additional 4.3 hectares. Gasim has decided to continue as the people have requested,” Jaleel said.

Nilandhoo council initiated the land reclamation project following an order by the island’s magistrate court to cease the cooking of fish near populated areas. Council president Jaleel said that once the reclamation is complete, cooking of fish will be transferred to the new area.
