Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has said that an attempt was made by the gang to which Hussain Waheed belonged to murder someone - to take revenge for Hussain Waheed’s death.

Speaking at a press conference today, Home Minister Umar Naseer said that the police intervened and stopped this crime.

Hussain Waheed, 21, was stabbed near Coffee Corner in Buruzu Magu and died while being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Umar Naseer said that the gang was planning to make a gang member carrying out a 25-year prison sentence commit the murder; and for this purpose, the gang members tried to free the individual when he was taken to Male’ for medical treatment.

Umar Naseer noted that a murder has been prevented due to the efforts of Police Intelligence and SO Police, and said that five people have been taken into custody on suspicion of this crime.

He said that gang crimes take place because of drugs, which cannot be stopped overnight, but assured that efforts to prevent such crimes are ongoing.

The police have arrested a 26-year-old individual in relation to Hussain Waheed’s murder.
