Immigration Department to pause issuing permits for non-professional expats

Department of Immigration and Emigration said on Thursday said that it will not be issuing new employment approvals for non-professional foreign workers starting from 1 January until 28 February 2014.

“Despite this decision, new employment approval applications for non-professional category foreigners received through the express online system before 31 December 2014 will be processed. Employment approvals will also be issued to the necessary categories of tourism, health and government projects,” Immigration Department said.

The department also expressed appreciation for public support over the government’s renewed efforts to address the increasing number undocumented expatriate workers in the country.
