Hulhumale' Development Corporation (HDC) has temporarily relocated the families who lost their property during a fire in Hulhumale’ yesterday, to Veshi Fahi Male' housing units.
Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed said that five families were directly affected, and six families indirectly affected by the fire that damaged a number of row houses in Hulhumale' yesterday afternoon. All families were shifted to temporary flats last night, Suhail said.
“They have been shifted to Veshi Fahi Male’ Project flats that have not been handed over,” Suhail said.
He said the corporation is now working with a contractor to draw up an agreement to repair the row house unites scorched by the fire.
Fire broke out in Mashi 3, a three-storey row house unit in Hulhumale’ around 11:30 a.m. yesterday. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue personnel, police and locals were able to extinguish the fire around 2:00 p.m. Surrounding buildings were affected and the primary building was completely destroyed.
The residents of Mashi 3 said an electrical shortage is believed to have caused the fire.
