Two Gemanafushi brothers recovering

The family of the Gemanafushi brothers has said that the two brothers who were recently attacked and injured, are now recovering.

A group attacked first Lance Corporal Ismail Shafeeg (Isse), followed by his stepbrothers Ahsan Abdulla, 24, and Ahmed Afsal, 19 of Dhilbahaaruge, Gemafushi.

Ahsan was stabbed in the stomach while Afsal was stabbed in the head.

A family member said that Afsal is now at home, after having been treated at Thinadhoo Regional Hospital. Ahsan remains in Thinadhoo Regional Hospital.

He said that Ahsan had undergone a major operation in his abdomen, and that doctors have advised him not to perform any heavy task.

“Afsal is at home, but Ahsan is still undergoing treatment. His condition is not so serious anymore. They performed a serious operation on his abdomen, and he is not supposed to do any physically straining work,” he said.

Following these attacks, Police have arrested Ahmed Naadhee Saleem, 21, of Noorussabah and Niyam Mohamed, 25, of Edhuruge. They are held in custody by the Police following a court warrant. Aleemuddheen, 34, of Keneryge is also arrested for investigations into this case.

Police have found a knife allegedly used in the crime from the house of Aleemuddheen.

The attacks were acts of retaliation against Lance Corporal Ismail Shafeeg (Isse), who stopped Ahmed Naadhee Saleem for speeding on his motorcycle.

Police Media Official Sub-inspector of Police Ahmed Shiyam said today that the case will be submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office as soon as investigations are complete.
