Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz has said that although the Police Act allows certain authorities, they must only be exercised after careful consideration of the situation and incident at hand.
Speaking at a ceremony held to conclude the 20th round of Police basic training course at Iskandar School last night, the Commissioner said that whenever an officer is faced with the situation where he should use force, he should prioritize the least possible form of force necessary to handle the situation. He reminded the Police that they are responsible for the people’s safety and security.
“Even though threatening and attacking the Police are on the rise, we must exercise patience. We have to remain steadfast in our services to the country during these challenging times,” Riyaz said.
Certificates were handed out to 123 officers who completed the Police basic training course. Police Sergeant Ahmed Saeed was selected best officer out of those who completed the course.
Commissioner of Police announced last night that the best officer of the Police basic training course will be given the Commissioner of Police Award.
