Power loss in Male

STELCO has said that the power loss in Male’ yesterday and today were caused by failure of the main generators.

They said that the whole of Male’ suffered power loss this afternoon at around 1.30pm due to the failure of the three main generators following a technical problem. Power was restored again at 4.30pm.

Several areas in Male’ were left without power for about one hour yesterday as well.

STELCO said that the main generators are failing due to technical problems faced in ongoing upgrade operations, and that frequent loss of power should be expected.

Both today and yesterday, power was cut during office hours which interrupted work and public services. It also disrupted school activities and restaurant services.

STELCO said that the use of power in Male’ is on the rise with every passing year. They are currently working on installing two generators of 8000 kW.
