Police have started to increase the number of Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTV) in the capital Male’ and have begun installing new CCTVs in five areas along Link Road in Addu City.
The number of cameras in Male' are to be increased to 150, police said in a press release yesterday. The move is part of the new administration’s efforts to increase surveillance and monitoring capabilities of the police within their first 100 days of government.
The 100-day road map also includes allowing 50 slots in the police force dedicated to women, conducting a career fare to acquaint young people with police work, increasing capacity of Dhoonidhoo detention facility by 10 more cells, establishing a new detention center for minors and establishing police presence in 7 new areas in the country. Police also plans to start a new sea vessel licensing program and to establish prevention committees within the force.
They also aim to conclude 80 percent of their pending investigations within the first 100 days, along with all of their non-organized crime cases within 30 days, and forward the cases for prosecution.
Police also plan cut down the duration of their laboratory drug tests to 3 days per test and begin 3 new operations to curb the drugs and alcohol issue across the country.
The 100-day is in addition to the institution's new 2014-2018 strategic action plan, which they plan to launch within that period.
Police also plans to assemble a regulation to establish a new internal investigation mechanism within the force and to start sending officers abroad for trainings on collecting ballistics evidence. A new police clinic and pharmacy dedicated to serve police officers and their families will also be set up within the road map period, said the police.
Police said that their 100-day road map has been communicated with the relevant commands, directorates and departments of the force.
