Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has transferred Criminal Court Judge Abdul Baaree Yusuf to Juvenile Court. The judge is currently under suspension over an investigation.
JSC said the decision follows meetings with the Supreme Court over ways to strengthen to judiciary by exchanging judges between courts to increase their knowledge. The transfer was made under Article 159 (a) of the Constitution and Article 21 of the JSC Act, which allows the commission to appoint, promote and transfer judges, JSC said.
In a recent series of changes over a bid to reform and strengthen the judiciary, the judicial watchdog has transferred Judge in-charge of the Juvenile Court Mohamed Naeem and Criminal Court Judge Mujuthaz Fahumee to the Drug Court, Drug Court Judges Zubair Mohamed and Mohmaed Easa Fulhu to Criminal Court and Criminal Court Judge Abdul Sattar Abdul Hameed to the Civil Court.
The commission has also decided to change Civil Court Judge Ali Naseer to the Family Court, and the Family Court Judges Hassan Shareef and Ibrahim Ali to Civil Court and Criminal Court respectively.
JSC yesterday decided to transfer Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed, who’s arbitrary detention triggered protests in December 2011 that led to the controversial change of government in February 2012, to the Drug Court.
