Government sends proposed budget revisions to parliament

The government has proposed several revisions to the budget for 2014, prepared by the government of former President Mohamed Waheed.

The revisions were sent to the parliament today, 15 days after the date mentioned by Minister of Finance Abdulla Jihad earlier, on which the government would send the revisions to the parliament.

Jihad said while speaking at the Parliament Budget Committee on 20 November that the revisions would be sent to the parliament on 25 November.

Jihad told Sun Online today that the budget figure of MVR 16.4 billion will change following these revisions, but did not disclose the new figure.

“The committee will announce the total figure after they receive the revisions,” he said.

President Abdulla Yameen has requested to deduct MVR 1 billion from recurrent costs in the MVR 16.4 billion budget proposed by the former government.

Jihad said that the parliament has accepted the revisions despite the delay.

Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid has notified the Budget Committee twice to send the budget to the parliament before 15 December.
