Police, Customs to being new anti-drug operations

Maldives Police Service and the Maldives Customs Service have announced a new operation to combat the import of drugs and the country’s overall drug issue.

Police said the decision was made following a meeting participated by the head of the Police Intelligence Directorate Assistant Commission Ahmed Areef, the Commissioner General of Customs Ahmed Mohamed and other senior level officials of both institutions, held yesterday.

Police revealed that the officials explored avenues to conduct joint operations and programs, locally and abroad, to curb the import of drugs into the country. They said that ways of increased cooperation between the two institutions were also discussed, along with avenues of increasing assistance in fighting organized crime in the Maldives.
