Ministry of Defence and National Security has stated today that they will take action against those who violate the rules and regulations of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and that they are in discussion with relevant authorities to prosecute politicians who condemn MNDF’s dismissal of officers.
The statement follows Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader former president Mohamed Nasheed’s condemnation of the dismissal of three more officers today, including a top ranking Brigadier General.
Defence Ministry noted that the certain political parties are making statements through the media, criticizing recent decisions by MNDF against its officers. The Ministry said that MNDF will continue to take relevant action under Article 44 (c) of the Armed Forces Act, which states the different actions that the organization may take if an officer violates the law.
Defence Ministry condemned the statements of criticism, describing them as politically motivated and called on all political organizations and media outlets to refrain from making and broadcasting such statements.
