Fire burns down Dhiffushi school

A fire in the island school in Kaafu Dhiffushi last night has left the school's office building rendered useless.

Dhiffushi island council president Hussain Rabeeu told Sun that the fire was discovered 3:30 a.m. last night. He said the office building houses the school’s library, computer lab, printing room and two storage rooms.

“The fire took place in the school’s office building around 3:30 in the morning. The office building has the school’s library, computer lab and the printing room, and also two storage rooms,” Rabeeu said.

He said the school’s security guard, who was on duty at the time of the fire, says the most likely cause is an electrical shortage.

Rabeeu said the fire was brought under control around 5:30 a.m. with the help of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) fire and rescue services personnel, firemen from Meeru Island Resort and a large effort from the locals.
