High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Shri Rajiv Shahare has paid a courtesy call on new Maldives’ Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Shahare congratulated Dr Jameel, and said that India and the Maldives enjoy “privileged ties” that had stood the test of time.
He said that India would continue to accord special privileges to the Maldives, which he described is “not just an old friend, but a very good friend” of India.
Dr Jameel said at the meeting that Indo-Maldives ties had flourished during the Gayoom presidency, and assured India of the Yameen administration’s firm commitment to advancing ties with India in all areas of development.
Dr Jameel and High Commissioner Shahare discussed issues of mutual interest, including the joint talks on easing consular and visa restrictions for the benefit of travellers between the two countries. Other issues discussed today include healthcare, defence cooperation, human resource development and bilateral high-level ties.
