Niqab-wearing man arrested for robbery

A man has been arrested from Hulhumale’ while trying to commit a string of robberies by wearing a niqab, a veil worn by some Muslim women in public covering all of the face apart from the eyes.

Police said the 40-year-old man caught on Tuesday night was arrested for robbery and possession of pornography. Police said that the Hulhumale’ police station is investigating the case and were short on details.

Men cross-dressing to commit crimes are rare in the Maldives.
