President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has ordered his heads of institutions to limit the number deputy ministers and ministers of state to two for every government institution.
President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali told Sun that the order was a step towards implementing the President's campaign pledge to control government expenses and establish a smaller government.
Muaz acknowledged that there are more than two deputy and state ministers in some government ministries, but said the number will be cut down to two for each ministry by the time the government is fully assembled.
