Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has dismissed five officers in addition to its former Head of Intelligence, Ahmed Nilam.
MNDF Media Official Hussain Ali told Sun Online that the five people are first Lieutenant Abdulla Shareef, Sergeant First Class Ali Waheed, Staff Sergeant Ibrahim Ali, Staff Sergeant Hassan Hameed, and Lance Corporal Shahrab Rashid.
Hussain Ali said that Abdulla Shareef, Ali Waheed, and Ibrahim Ali were dismissed for failing to follow the responsibilities and duties of an MNDF officer.
Hassan Hameed was dismissed for violating the ethical standards of MNDF, and Shahrab Rashid was dismissed for revealing confidential information related to MNDF, said Hussain Ali.
All five officers except for Hassan Hameed were suspended earlier for propagating discord within MNDF.
MNDF said following their suspension that Ali Waheed and Abdulla Shareef were suspended for propagating discord in the military, while Shahrab Rashid was suspended for sharing military information with outside groups without permission.
Towards the end of former President Mohamed Waheed’s term in office, a petition signed by four MNDF officers was presented to Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam. Several officers were also suspended around the same time for propagating discord within MNDF.
