Parliament’s Penal Code Bill review committee has allowed a 10-day period for the Attorney General’s Office to review the bill.
The request to review the bill came from the Attorney General’s Office.
Parliament secretariat revealed that granting the 10-day period, the committee expressed that the bill has undergone a lengthy review and that it has already allowed the public and government institutions to comment on the bill. The committee also noted that the over 90 percent of the amendments proposed by the Attorney General’s Office has been incorporated already been incorporated.
The secretariat said noted that if the committee fails to complete the review of the penal code within this parliament term, the new committee that will be assembled following the 2014 general election will have to start the review process from the beginning.
The MPs in attendance at the penal code review committee today are Naifaru MP Ahmed Mohamed, Maafannu-North MP Imthiyaz Fahumy, Thulhaadhoo MP Nazim Rashaad, Bileidhoo MP Ahmed Hamza and Maavashu MP Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru.
