President seeks parliament approval for five ministers

President Abdulla Yameen has forwarded the names of five cabinet minister to the parliament seeking approval.

Spokesperson at the President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz said the names were forwarded to parliament on Thursday.

The names include his first five appointments; Minister of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Jihad, Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel Rtd Mohamed Nazim, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon, and Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim.

Article 129 (c) requires the President to receive approval from the parliament for all Cabinet appointments, except for the Vice President.

President Yameen expressed confidence in his newly assembled Cabinet and said it consists of the best available experts from the relevant fields in the country.

Spokesperson Muaz said names of the remaining members of the Cabinet will soon be forwarded to the parliament for approval.

President Yameen appointed the last member of his cabinet, Attorney General Mohamed Anil on Thursday. The Cabinet will hold its first meeting within the week.
