Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has said it will announce to hire 58 new Maldivian nurses within the next week.
Speaking to the press today, Administrative Officer at IGMH Ali Zahir said the move is a step towards increasing the percentage of locals in the health sector, an election pledge of the new government.
The government’s central hospital currently employees 302 foreign nurses and 271 local nurses. Ali Zahir said the new announcement is for slots that are currently vacant and that the hospital will not dismiss any current employee.
He said the hospital’s new policy includes maximizing the amount of local employees in all areas. “Our aim is to hire as many Maldivians in IGMH and the health sector,” Ali Zahir said.
