A group has been arrested from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport for threatening to hijack a Flyme aircraft being readied to depart this evening.
A senior official from Villa Air told Sun that a group of people about to board the aircraft, scheduled to depart at 7:00 p.m. this evening, were handed over to security for threatening to hijack the aircraft. The flight was being boarded at the time of the incident, the official said.
“While flight was being boarded, a group of people who were about to fly said they will hijack. They started threatening, and were handed over to the military for security reasons,” the official said.
Sun is aware that the group consisted of five locals. However, the police and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said it is too soon to reveal details of the incident. Further details could not be obtained at the time of press.
The flight departed on schedule and arrived in Kadhdhoo airport without any incident, the Villa Air official said.
