Taiwan warns tourists against danger of drowning in the Maldives

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan has warned Taiwanese tourists to be on high alert for the danger of drowning in the Maldives.

The Taiwanese Foreign Ministry said that an increasing number of drowning incidents have been reported in the Maldives recently, and one of the victims was Taiwanese.

A Taiwanese paper reported that the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry shared some tips to avoid drowning, such as never swimming alone and swimming only in areas with lifeguards on duty.

According to the paper, a recent Chinese media report said a total of 16 Chinese tourists drowned in the Maldives in 2012, and a Taiwanese honeymooner drowned in the Maldives in March 2010.
