Individual sentenced to four months in prison for assaulting police officer

Ahmed Asif of Sabeena, Haa Dhaalu Vaikaradhoo, has been sentenced to four months in prison and fined MVR 5,000 by Criminal Court for assaulting and throwing a water bottle at a police officer.

The ruling came on Thursday, and states that Ahmed Asif assaulted and threw a water bottle at a police officer during a protest by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) near MMA building on 8 May 2012 at around 10:20 p.m.

Ahmed Asif was given this sentence under Article 75 of the Police Act. The court ordered him to pay the fine to the court within one month.
