Sri Lankan President congratulates President Yameen

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has extended his congratulations to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on his election victory.

The President’s Office said in a statement today that President Rajapaksa expressed warm felicitations to the newly-elected President of Maldives and highlighted the longstanding close-friendly ties between the peoples of Maldives and Sri Lanka. He assured President Yameen of his government’s eagerness on strengthening development cooperation between the neighbourly countries.

President Yameen, the President’s Office said, assured his Sri Lankan counterpart of his commitment to build on the prevalent close friendship with the Sri Lankan government and people. He also congratulated the Sri Lankan leader on the success of the recently-concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
