Former DRP Leader Thasmeen joins MDP

Kendhoo MP Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, who recently resigned as Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), has joined Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Thasmeen signed the membership form to join MDP at a function held at MDP Office this evening.

Thasmeen’s wife, Maduvvari MP Visam Ali also signed to join MDP at the function.

None of the people elected by the members of DRP to its leadership remain in their posts any longer.

DRP Deputy Leaders elected at the party’s most recent congress, Thulusdhoo MP Rozaina Adam and Vilingili MP Mohamed Ramiz, have resigned.

DRP Deputy Leader Medhu-Henveiru MP Ali Azim has also defected to MDP.

Rozaina has said that she has also decided to join MDP.

Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed has been elected by the party’s council, with 13 votes in favour, as its Acting President.
