Naifaru MP included among five to chair parliament

Speaker of the Parliament has announced Naifaru MP Ahmed Mohamed as the new addition amongst the five MPs who can chair the parliament, in the absence of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Article 10 of the Parliament Regulation allows the Speaker to appoint five members, in order of seniority, to chair the sittings of the parliament in the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. The level of seniority is determined by the number of years the MP has served in parliament. MP Ahmed Mohamed has been a member for over 12 years.

MP Ahmed Mohamed’s appointment follows Mulaku MP Abdulla Yameen's resignation to take over the presidency.

The five MPs in line to chair parliament session include; Kanditheemu MP Mohamed Hussain, Velidhoo MP Ali Mohamed, Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Kendhoo MP Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and the newly appointed Naifaru MP Ahmed Mohamed.
