Parliament returns no-confidence motion against President and Defence Minister

Parliament has today returned the motion of no confidence against President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim.

The motions were filed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group.

Speaker of the parliament today informed MDP parliamentary group leader MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih that the motions cannot be continued since the current presidential term had expired by 11 November 2013.

President Waheed on Sunday night announced that he will remain in office until a new president is announced 16 November, the date scheduled to hold the second round of the presidential election.
