Demands to change election date unreasonable and unacceptable, says the Commonwealth

The Commonwealth has said that It is unreasonable and unacceptable for political parties to continue to demand changes to the agreed date to hold the second round of the presidential election.

In a statement released today, The Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, Sir Donald McKinnon further said; “Voters deserve better from their leaders, and a greater degree of predictability over something as serious as a presidential election.”

It continues to state that any further delays would create uncertainty for the voters, place extra demands on the Elections Commission and lower people’s confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.

Supreme Court has ordered the Elections Commission early dawn today to postpone the second round of the presidential election to Saturday, 16 November 2013.
