HRCM concerned over sudden amendment of laws

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has expressed concern over the sudden amendment of laws and regulations related to the parliament.

In a statement, HRCM said that this concern follows a meeting with Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid, during which discussions were focused on the unrest that might break out following the failure to elect a president by 11 November.

HRCM has urged the public to act independently, responsibly, and free from influence when exercising their right to vote on Saturday.

HRCM also called on all relevant authorities and political parties to do everything possible ensure that every citizen is able to exercise this right.

HRCM also met with a delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) today.
