Officials discuss holding second round on 10 or 11 November

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has held a meeting with members of the Elections Commission and agents of the three presidential candidates, to discuss holding the second round of the presidential election on 10 or 11 November.

The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad and Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim.

In a meeting held earlier today between President Waheed and the three presidential candidates, the three presidential candidates agreed with holding the second round on 10 or 11 November.

At the meeting held this evening at the President’s Office, President Waheed requested the Elections Commission to make a decision regarding holding the second round on the dates agreed by the candidates.

President Waheed urged to conduct the election peacefully, and stressed the importance of electing a president and having that person assume presidential powers as soon as possible, to ensure political stability.
