BPRS software will not be used in this election: EC

Elections Commission (EC) has said that the Ballot Progressive Reporting System (BPRS) software, which was used on 7 September, will not be used during voting on 9 November.

Speaking at a press conference last night (Monday night), President of EC Fuad Thaufeeg said that the decision to not use the software follows several complaints regarding the software.

“Lists of eligible voters will be entered into our netbooks. However, the software showing voting progress will not be used this time,” said Fuad.

EC Member Ali Mohamed Manik said that using the software resulted in several accusations being made against the commission, and that the software also caused confusion for the media and the public.

Ali Mohamed Manik said that this means that updates, such as the number of people queuing up to vote and the number of people who have voted, will not be available on the commission’s website.
