Presidential candidates accept President Waheed

The three presidential candidates have accepted President Waheed’s invitation for a meeting to discuss issues related to the election scheduled for Saturday.

Agent of presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen, Abdulla Ameen said today that Yameen will attend the meeting, and that PPM will participate in all discussions initiated by the government to resolve issues related to the country, especially at a time when the country is facing such serious challenges.

Agent of presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed, Hassan Latheef said that Nasheed will participate in the meeting, but at the same time criticised President Waheed.

“Nasheed thinks Waheed’s actions are disgraceful. The election scheduled for 19 October was obstructed by Waheed. Now he’s trying to show local groups and the international community, that he is willing to cooperate with the efforts to hold the election,” he said.

Agent of presidential candidate of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim, Ibrahim Khaleel said that Gasim will participate in the meeting, and that Gasim will participate in every effort made towards ensuring peace and order in the country.

The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at President’s Office. The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate a free, fair, and peaceful election.
