Fingerprints on 350 re-registration forms verified

Police have verified the fingerprints on 350 re-registration forms, submitted by voters who wish to vote away from their permanent addresses in the 9 November presidential election.

Police said it took experts over three hours to check 350 forms, forwarded for verification by the Department of National Registration (DNR).

Verified forms will be handed over to the Elections Commission, police said.

Police earlier said it will take 3 minutes per fingerprint to match with prints in their database, and a further 5 minutes per fingerprint for which they do not have duplicates.

Police said they have increased the verification capacity by making arrangements to verify more prints manually.

Elections Commission revealed that they received over 71,000 re-registration forms this time around, compared to 62,000 forms submitted for the initial first round of the election.

The Elections Commission’s time table for the November 9 presidential election says the commission will forward re-registration forms to DNR for verification on 3 November.
