President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeq has revealed that all presidential candidates have assured support for the re-run of the presidential election.
Speaking on Television Maldives’ (TVM) Raajje Miadhu program tonight, Fuad said the candidates have also asked the commission to ensure that the Supreme Court guideline is properly followed.
Fuad said the commission will stick to the guideline, but said the commission needs the support of all relevant State institutions. He said he is certain that he will receive the support required.
When asked of the speculation that the commission will not be able to hold the election on 9 November as scheduled, Fuad said he is confident the commission will be able to meet the date, provided he receives the support of the relevant government institutions, as assured by the government spokesperson for the election, Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim.
“God willing, the election will be held this time around,” Fuad said.
He said with the assistance of the National Centre of Information Technology (NCIT), the commission’s data servers are now secure.
