Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain has said that court rulings must be implemented despite pending complaints against judges.

Faiz made this remark while speaking at a ceremony held today at Judicial Service Commission (JSC), to present letters of appointment to new judges appointed to the superior courts.

“Rumours about a court, or a complaint against a judge - these are not reasons for not implementing court rulings. Court rulings can be implemented in the Maldives, otherwise it would not be possible to uphold the rule of law,” said Faiz.

He said that the Parliament Secretariat has been informed of the Supreme Court ruling whereby it declared that Medhu-Henveiru MP Ali Azim has lost his parliament seat, and that it should be possible to implement this ruling.

“Questions have been raised about a recent Supreme Court ruling. My reply to them is that it should be possible to implement Supreme Court rulings. This is obligatory. This has been discussed with the honourable judge of the parliament. I told him that Supreme Court rulings must be implemented. It should be possible to implement the Supreme Court ruling,” he said.

Faiz said that the current rumours about some judges defames those judges, and called on JSC to investigate the complaints against judges and take action as soon as possible.
