Court hears final testimony against Humaam

Criminal Court has completed hearing testimonies against Hussain Humaam Ahmed, H. Lobby, arrested in relation to the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali.

The seventh witness, a person who was with Humaam in Atholhuvehi, presented his statement at the trial held at Criminal Court this afternoon.

The judge said that the court has decided that it will not hear statements by the three remaining witnesses presented by the State, and that the summary statement for this case will be presented at the next session.

The anonymous witness who testified today said that Humaam often suspects that his cellmates try to obtain information from him, regarding the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali.

He said that Humaam was unable to sleep for several nights after having dreamt of Dr Afrasheem Ali, and that Humaam had said that he dreamt of being dragged on the floor with a rope tied around his neck by Dr Afrasheem Ali.

The witness said that Humaam told him that the ‘big devil’ paid the ‘two small devils’ and asked them to murder Dr Afrasheem Ali.

He went on to say that another person named ‘Koattey’, arrested on suspicion of killing someone, had also shared with his cellmates that he dreamt of the person he killed. He said that when asked, Humaam ‘clearly explained’ that he murdered Dr Afrasheem Ali.

He said that he heard Humaam and a group of people in the prison say that Dr Afrasheem Ali had to be murdered because he preached Islam wrongly, and that Humaam had said that he suspected that Dr Afrasheem Ali was murdered by ‘a dot group’.

Dr Afrasheem Ali was murdered on the night of 1 October 2012. In addition to Humaam, the State has charged Ali Shaan, H. Hicoast, for this crime.
