MMA introduces new MVR 100 banknote

Maldives central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has introduced a new MVR 100 bank notes into circulation today.

In a statement released today, MMA stated that the shipment of new MVR 100 banknotes, which arrived in the Maldives on 23 September, has better security features compared to the last print of MVR 100 banknotes in 2004.

The new security features include; a corner watermark with aslant lines on each corner of the note, a watermark highlight with the value 100 appearing in an additional bright watermark, a 3mm wide security thread with a “100 MMA” decorative pattern running continuously which changes colour from red to green according to the viewing angle, and a new date signature dated 20 Safar 1434, 2 January 2013 signed by Governor Dr Fazeel Najeeb.

All MVR 100 banknotes issued since 7 October 1983 will still be considered legal tender, MMA said.
