Lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim has said that the Supreme Court must make a decision on whether to accept or reject his case, seeking to bar Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate, former president Mohamed Nasheed from the presidential election.
In an interview to Sun on Wednesday, Waheed said that he refuses to withdraw the case.
The current public holidays is not an excuse to delay a decision on the case, and that the Supreme Court must decide before the case becomes irrelevant, Waheed said.
“This is the time when the Elections Commission has accepted the candidacy in violation of the law. Saying that it is the holidays, and since the elections is on Saturday, it has been a long time since I filed the case, but they have still not accepted. Accepting and rejecting the case is up to the Supreme Court. This I will not contest. Don’t want to contest. It is the time for the candidacy. It has to be done during this time,” Waheed said.
