The Elections Commission (EC) has said that they are not informed by the Human Right Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), when investigations are carried out regarding the manner in which EC deals with political parties.
EC said in a statement issued today that HRCM has the authority to investigate human rights violations; however, they must inform EC when investigating allegations against EC.
The commission also condemned these violations of the principle of ‘natural justice’ by HRCM, and expressed concern over the allegations made by HRCM that EC is biased when taking action against political parties.
EC assured that they are not biased and that they take action against political parties in accordance with the relevant laws.
