Gasim never decided to not work with us: Nasheed

Presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has said that presidential candidate of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim has never decided to not work with MDP, to facilitate victory for MDP in the presidential election.

Speaking on Raajje Miadhu program on TVM, Nasheed said that he requested Gasim to work with MDP in the second round.

“I requested Gasim, that we really want Gasim’s assistance in the second round. Gasim said that he never decided in any situation, political or otherwise, to not work with us,” he said.

Nasheed visited Gasim at his residence Maafannu Villa on 19 September.

Gasim’s spokesperson Ibrahim Khaleel said after the meeting that Nasheed invited Gasim to support MDP in the second round, and that Gasim replied that that discussion will depend on the Supreme Court ruling.

During a press conference yesterday, when asked if the JP steering committee might decide to support MDP in the second round, Gasim said, “Whether to join MDP or not, or whether to join PPM or not – this will be discussed when we are faced with that situation. I don’t want to say anything right now. When we are faced with the situation.”
