Re-registration has been completed for about 40,000 forms: EC President

President of the Elections Commission (EC) Fuad Thaufeeg has said that re-registration has been completed for about 40,000 forms submitted for the first round of the presidential election scheduled for Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference this evening, Fuad said that some difficulties were faced and time was wasted when the commission’s computer system broke down yesterday afternoon, but all forms had been accepted by 8:50 a.m. today, and about 40,000 forms have been entered into the computer system so far.

“All forms had been accepted by 8:50 a.m. Since then, the forms are being processed. The work is ongoing. We hope to complete entering all forms by tomorrow morning. Re-registration has been completed for about 40,000 forms,” he said.

More than 60,000 people have re-registered for the first round re-run scheduled for 19 October, following the annulment of the first round held on 7 September by the Supreme Court.

Fuad said that the public can file complaints starting from tomorrow.

“Complaints regarding re-registration can be filed between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. It’s not possible to give more time. We will check the complaints we receive tomorrow, and make amendments if possible,” he said.

EC Member Ali Mohamed Manik said that the commission will do everything possible to ensure that the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court are followed.

Manik said that thus far, they have not received any complaints regarding verification of fingerprints.
