Lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim has filed a case in Supreme Court asking to declare that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate, former president Mohamed Nasheed is not qualified to stand for the presidential election.
Speaking to the press after filing the case in court today, Mohamed Waheed said that the case was filed as a constitutional case against the Elections Commission.
He said that the case argues that the Elections Commission had acted against the law in accepting the former president’s candidacy.
He said that the public views Nasheed as person who opposes the fundamentals of Islam and a person who had grossly violated the laws of the State.
