Maldives Police Service has concluded investigations and forwarded the cases of nine individuals to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) seeking prosecution, for disobeying police orders and obstruction of police duties.
The nine individuals also include Former Minister of Education for senior Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) member Shifa Mohamed.
Police revealed the other eight individuals as Khadheeja Mohamed, 50, M. Noor Asurumaage, Mariyam Mohamed, 35, Dheyliyaage, Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, Mohamed Ahmed, 26, Vincent, Gaafu Dhaalu Gaddhoo, Mohamed Aboobakuru, 53, Male’ Dhaftharu (General Registry) number 2688, Usama Abdul Hannan, 28, Italy, Alif Dhaalu Maamigili, Mohamed Siruhan, 25, Narugisvilla, Haa Alif Kela, Zufrath, 44, H. Rosendale, Male’ and Hassan Ali, 39, Jeymuge, Noonu Maafaru.
The nine individuals are being charged for criticizing the ongoing Supreme Court hearing of the election case on 1st October, breaking police barricades with intent to obstruct the hearing, refusing orders by the police on duty to step behind the barricades and for obstructing police duties.
