Employee mugged of powerhouse money in Dhanbidhoo

A powerhouse staff in Laamu Dhanbidhoo was mugged of MVR 80,000 by masked men while transporting the money to the bank on Tuesday.

Managing Director of the government owned utility company that owns the powerhouse, Fenaka Corporation, Farooq Mohamed Hassan told Sun that the employee was mugged between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon while taking the money to be deposited to the Bank of Maldives branch in Laamu Gan.

He said that the robbers took a large sum of money, in addition to bank cheques issued from Maabaidhoo Council. The incident was promptly reported to the police, he said.

A similar incident happened in Laamu atoll on 18th December last year when a group of masked men armed with knifes and machetes had mugged an employee of the South Central Utilities Limited, while the employee was transporting more MVR100,000 earned as revenue for the company, to the bank.

Farooq said that Fenaka Corporation has now informed their regional director to seek police assistance in transporting money to the bank.

Police media official said that the police are investigating the case.
