MACL to sell shares to the public

The government has decided to sell shares of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to the public.

Media Secretary of the President’s Office Masood Imad told Sun Online that this decision was made by the economic committee of the cabinet today.

He said that efforts to sell shares of MACL, which operates Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), will commence next week.

MACL, a government-owned company, took over the operation of INIA when the present government terminated the agreement leasing the operation of INIA to Indian company GMR, made by the government of former president Mohamed Nasheed.
