Government to present 2014 budget to parliament on 30th October

Parliament has informed the Ministry of Finance and Treasury to present the projected State budget for 2014 on 30th of October 2013.

In a statement today, the parliament secretariat announced that the decision, made by the Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid, has been communicated with the Minister of Finance Abdulla Jihad.

“The Speaker of the People’s Majlis has decided to schedule the presentation of the Projected State Budget for 2014 for the Sitting to be held on 30 October 2013 and has informed the Ministry of Finance and Treasury to submit the Projected State Budget for consent of the People’s Majlis," read the parliament's statement.

Article 32 (a) of the Public Accounts Act requires the Minister of Finance and Treasury to submit the projected State budget prior to two months of the upcoming year, for the consent of the parliament.
