Two to be charged for printing ballot papers

The police have completed an investigation against two people suspected of printing ballot papers in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi two days ahead of the first round of the presidential election, held on 7 September.

The two suspects, Ahmed Abdul Rahman and Ahmed Athif, acted as election monitors in Kulhudhuffushi on voting day.

Ahmed Athif was the campaign manager in Kulhudhuffushi for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The police said that the investigation has been completed, and that the case has been forwarded to the Elections Commission (EC).

Vice President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Fayaz Hassan, said that the case will be forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office today.

Neither the police nor the EC has given details regarding this case.

The forged ballot papers, which look the same as the actual ballot papers used in the first round of the election, were printed in a bookshop called MOC in Kulhudhuffushi.

A person from Kulhudhuffushi who spoke to Sun Online said that the soft copy of the ballot paper was taken to the bookshop in a pen drive, and that 15 copies of the ballot paper were laminated and distributed to 15 islands.
