Supreme Court has suspended Husnu Al Suood, lawyer representing the Elections Commission, along with Hisaan Hussain and Hassan Latheef, the lawyers representing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), from the Jumhoory Party's election case, asking the court to annul the results of the first round of the presidential elections.
Supreme Court sent a notice to Hisaan Hussain informing her of her suspension from advocating in court, for speaking on public media and social networks platforms against the Supreme Court injunction ordering the EC to postpone the second round of the presidential election.
Hassan Latheef and Husnu Al Suood have also confirmed to Sun Online that they have been suspended by the court.
Speaking at a meeting held by MDP last night, Hisaan Hussain said that she does not accept yesterday’s Supreme Court decision. She also heavily criticised the judges of the Supreme Court at the meeting, which was shown live on Raajje TV.
Hisaan Hussain told Sun Online today that she has not spoken about the Supreme Court ruling to any media group, but that she did however, mention the issue on Twitter.
She said that she received the Supreme Court notice at around 1:30 p.m. today.
Husnu Al Suood tweeted yesterday that he is of the opinion that the interim order by the Supreme Court yesterday “has no legal basis, and violates the constitution”.
